The Central Register over Soldiers . .
.. an amazing resource.
Can you trust wath you find there?
Yes, often, but like other secondary sources you have to check, sometimes you will find an error.
Below an example that made me work a litte extra.
Click on the pickture above and you will go to The Central Register over Soldiers.
Back in time, there is in the family, on my grandmothers side, many soliders.
Jöns Carlsson was one.
Born 1716 on the soldier’s cottage Käfset in Villstads parish, (south west of Småland).
He died in Pommern 1758-1760? He did not wisit the two last catechetical meetings 1758 and not the one in -59 eller -60.
Above extract from Villstad AI:3 (1756-1760) page 495/496.
The family lives on the soldiers croft Vipperhult, Duvö.
To the left you can se the whole family. To the right that Jöns has died in Pommern.
Brobably Jöns died by disease. During this time died 80-90% of the killed soldiers by diseases and not in battle.
Jöns was a soldier and then you ought to find him in the “General-inspektion list”.
He ought to belong to the regiment in Jönköping, Västbo company. I have a look in “Grill”.
You can find “Grill” in ArkivDigital under the archive section “Tryckt litteratur”.
In “The Grill-register” I can see Villstad, for example, in “Grill” 2, page 155.
In “Grill 2”, page 155, I see that Vipperhult in Villstad belongs to Västbo company, division no 124.
The inspection that is most handy is no 375, 1759-1760. I turn the pages to Västbo company, divison 124, and, have a look!
There is a Jöns Wolf! Jöns dies 8 jan 1759, 40 years old, 6 years in service, Smålänning, married. The division is “vakant”.
Everyting seems to agree, espect the age. Is this the right soldier, then he is 45 when he dies.
This inspection was done in Stralsund, in Pommern, 6 feb 1759.
A short cut to more information can be “The Central Register over Soldiers”.
I searched for Jöns Wolf/Carlsson, Västbo, Villstad, in the regement Jönköping, in different combinations but didn’t find anything.
Then I searched for all Jöns in the regement. 2117 answers. Among them Jöns Wolf, but in a compleate different company!
Hmmm. … . ?
Then I have to go the other way. Via “GrillReg” and “Grill 2” I see that Järstorp, Toveryd 124, belongs to “Livkompaniet”. Division 124 will never turn up in any General-munster list. I have a look in the catechism records in Järstorp and in the soldiers croft Toveryd lives a soldier Johan Ekenberg. He doesn’t seems to be very popular!
Järstorp AI:2 page 154
ståcklat” = stock-lat = “extremly lazy”?
Now I check on Johan in “The Soldiers Register”. Yes, he’s there, but with same diarynumber and same croftnumber as “my” Jöns!
There must be a misregistration on Jöns Wolf/Carlsson.
